I’m really pleased by how upset people are about CurrentC and how it sets mobile payments back more than a few years. Google Wallet has been around since 2011, NFC longer than that. NFC is more secure than scanning a Q code that sends your personal information to the retailer’s system–and you know retailers aren’t always careful with your information. So why use it when we have a more secure alternative with NFC.
But security aside, all CurrentC does is make it easier for big chain retailers to get money directly from you and not have to pay a card agency money to use their service. If we use CurrentC, jobs will be lost, stores will still pay the same low wages that keep people on food stamps and big retail chains will have a larger profit. This is called corporate greed.
